Shot peening is the most versatile life cycle enhancement process existing for metal components. Shot peening is a cold working process used to produce a compressive residual stress layer and modify mechanical properties of metals. It entails impacting a surface with spherical shaped media (round metallic, glass, or ceramic particles) with force sufficient to create plastic deformation.

It is difficult to understand that this surface treatment is unknown to many companies, a process that can increase the lifetime of metal components 5 to 100 times, sometimes even negate mechanical failure. Shot peening is a remedy to overcome internal (residual) tensile stresses that result in metal fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, fretting etc.

These bespoke solutions provide the capability to shot peen complex and big components such as aircraft landing gear but also include satellite table machines for a high level of productivity when peening aero engine aerofoils or gears and springs for the automotive industry. Most of the time we employ a multi axis robot to provide the user with the highest flexibility for nozzle manoeuvring. However, a gantry system including 2-, 3-, 4- or 5-axis is also a standard within our capability.
