In the space and aircraft-industries the advantages of the shot peening process are already known: the increase of the fatigue-life of critical parts without weight increase. The designers used shot peening in applications where the effects of fatigue were caused by grinding, electrical discharge- and electrochemical-machining (EDM and ECM), electroplating, anodising, thermal spraying and welding. It also can help increase resistance to fretting, galling, caviation erosion, stress-corrosion cracking, intergranulair corrosion and hydrogen-embrittlement.

Marine Industry

Straaltechniek International introduced in the early 90s a revolutionary design for the surface preparation of the ship sections. The design was based on the use of a re-usable abrasive.

The equipment was based on one-stop shop, which means that the complete surface preparation (shot-blasting, cleaning of internal parts of the ship sections, as well as painting) will be performed in one and the same workshop.

Shot-blasting and foundry

Straaltechniek International is particularly active in the domain of blast wheel machines with applications that vary depending on the requirements: desanding, descaling, creation of surface quality, state of cleanliness, roughness, shot peening, cosmetic treatments. The protection of the machines and the output of the turbines are the master words. Shotblasting machines generate their own destruction by nature of work carried out. Straaltechniek conceives and integrates the most modern technologies to reduce this.

Boilers and Tanks

In the last years Straaltechniek International, in combination with some project partners who are all world leaders in their specific field, delivered the surface preparation machines for several powder enamelling lines in Europe. The principle of powder enamelling is similar to powder coating, although the temperature of the firing process for enamelling is significantly different from powder enamelling (up to 850C instead of 180C to 220C). Machines have been supplied in online execution (for high production capacities) and off-line execution (for regular production capacity). Machines with a maximum production capacity of 240 boilers per hour have been installed and are producing 350 days a year, 24 hours per day.
